Factors affecting the occurrence of violence among rural youth in Fayoum Governorate

Abstract

The research aimed to determine the degree of prevalence of deviant behavior among rural youth, identify the factors responsible for the occurrence of violence, test the significance of the relationship between the characristics of the respondents and their opinion on the degree of influence of the factors responsible for violence, and identify the respondents’ proposals to reduce violence. The research was conducted on a sample of 150 respondents from rural youth in the village of Al-Gharqa, Itsa Center in Fayoum, and data was collected using a questionnaire form during the month of August 2023. After collecting the data, it was transcribed and statistically analyzed using numerical count tables, percentages, and weighted averages. Pearson's simple correlation coefficient, chi-square, Cramer's relationship intensity, and T-test for the difference between two means. The results were as follows: More than half of the respondents (51.3%) fall into the medium level category for the prevalence of deviant behavior forms in general. The most important factors influencing the occurrence of violence are weak religious faith, a lot of free time among young people, and mixing with bad friends. About half of the respondents (49.3%) fall into the middle level category of the influence of factors responsible for the occurrence of violence among rural youth. In general. There is a significant relationship between the age of the respondents, type of profession, father’s education, mother’s education and their opinion on the degree of influence of the factors responsible for the occurrence of violence among rural youth in general. The most important proposals for reducing violence are developing religious faith among young people, providing job opportunities for young people, tightening punishment, and activating the role of rural youth centers. The research ended with a number of recommendations derived from its results.
