Farmers adoption of some sustainable agricultural techniques in the area of soil protection and maintenance in Gharbia Governorate

Abstract

The research aimed to identify the stages of respondents' adoption to sustainable farming techniques in the area of soil protection and maintenance, and determining the relationship between the studied independent variables and the degree of continuity of farmers’ adoption of sustainable farming techniques in the area of soil protection and maintenance. The research was conducted on a sample consisting of 382 respondents of farmers in Gharbia Governorate. Data were collected using a questionnaire by personal interview with respondents during June and July 2021. Data were analyzed using tables, frequencies, percentages, and simple correlation coefficient. The results showed that only 10.2% of the respondents had a high level of adoption of sustainable agriculture techniques in the field of soil conservation and preservation, and that nearly 48.7% of respondents had a medium level of adoption of these techniques.More than 40.1% of the respondents had low level of adoption of these techniques. With regard to the relationship between the studied variables and the degree of respondents’ adoption of the techniques, it was found that there was a direct correlation at the 0.01 level between the variables of the number of years of education and the area of agricultural holding. It was also found that there was an opposite correlation at the level of 0.05 between the age variable, and a Positive correlation at the level of 0.05 between the variable of attitude towards new ideas.
